ZAMANTHA LOPEZ

Engineer/Salt River Project

Zamantha Lopez is a chemical engineer at Salt River Project, one of the nation’s largest public utilities whose mission is to provide power and water to approximately 1 million retail customers. Her projects include improving automation control for hydroelectric plants as well as other combined cycle generation plants. As a daughter of immigrants, she learned that hard work will lead to goal realization and that education is one of the great equalizers. Zamantha is a graduate and active alumnus from the University of Rochester with a degree in chemical engineering and a minor in environmental engineering. The oldest of her three siblings, she is a first generation college student and set the path for her two sisters to also graduate from the U of R. Zamantha is involved with speaking with non-profits in the Phoenix area to motivate and inspire more minorities to pursue STEM careers. She hopes that her involvement within the AGUILA will propel more students to STEM careers while providing realistic anecdotes of the education to profession. As a member of the 2009 cohort, Zamantha is honored to be a part of the AGUILA board.
