Sandra Zegarra, Alum (2008)
Sandra is originally from Lima, Peru. She graduated from Coronado High School in 2008 then went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude at Arizona State University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and certificate in International Relations. At ASU Sandra was awarded the Presidential Scholarship, was a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, member of the Golden Key International Honor Society, member of the ASU Young Democrats, and member of Hispanic Business Students Association. After attending ASU, Sandra graduated from George Washington University Law School in 2016 where she was a member of the Human Rights Law Society and part of General of Energy and Environmental Law.
While in law school Sandra became a student attorney with the Family of Justice Litigation Clinic where she worked with indigenous domestic violence survivors. Sandra also interned at Tahari Justice Center where she assisted in a number of cases of victims of severe gender based violence. At the end of her law school career Sandra received an award from her Dean based on the amount of pro-bono hours she dedicated to public interest.
Sandra is now an Immigration Attorney with the international organization, Kids in Needed Defense(KIND). She represents unaccompanied immigrant children before an immigration court who have fled their countries due to persecution, abandonment, abuse, or neglect and are seeking protection and a better life here in the United States
